RORC Caribbean 600 Circumnavigation Race 2018

19-23 February 2018 (Training days 14-18th)

It's hard to believe that 2018 will be the 10th RORC Caribbean 600 it seems only a short while since its inception and the idea from a couple of long time antigua residents and sailors.  We have raced every year and benefit from having our home base here in Antigua at the centre of it all .

The regatta has come a long way with 900 sailors from 30 countries taking part on a hugely challenging course with many different legs around the Caribbean islands, sail changes, wind shifts and the cream of world offshore racing to compete with in the comparative warmth of the Caribbean.

This exciting event attracts an incredible fleet including some of the top racers in the world but at the same time has plenty to offer enthusiastic amateurs and first time offshore racers.

Starting in February, this event dovetails with the other major Caribbean Regattas in 2018 and will set off from Fort Charlotte, just outside English Harbour in Antigua. Heading north, the fleet will pass a mark off Barbuda, Nevis, Saba and St Barth's before circling St Maarten and heading down the west coast and round the south of Guadeloupe.
Finally you will head back north to a mark off Barbuda, across to the tiny but spectacular 'Kingdom of Redonda' before returning to Antigua for the finish.

RORC Caribbean 600----Team Spirit of Juno

Yacht available 2 weeks from 12 February with guests departing on 26 February - Training 14-18th

Spirit of Juno is to race again. Round the World racing yacht the Spirit of Juno will compete in the Caribbean 600 in February 2018. The growth in popularity of the Royal Ocean Racing Club Caribbean 600 race has been spectacular, it has already overtaken the Round Ireland Race and it is predicted that in 5 years' time it will have more entrants than the Sydney to Hobart.

Like the Fastnet and Sydney to Hobart many amateur racing sailors want to complete a C600. If you only have one opportunity to do it then Spirit of Juno is a great choice as she is a tough yacht and has a very high probability of finishing. We include a good training programme with the Team joining the Tuesday before the race, getting to know the layout and safety equipment on Wednesday and training hard on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday is held in reserve and the party at the Antigua Yacht Club in Falmouth Harbour on the Saturday night is really something.

We will be alongside in Falmouth Harbour so you can stay on board from the Tuesday (although reasonably priced accommodation is also available and several team members are going to be accompanied by WAGS). The race starts on Monday and typically takes 4 days so we should be in fine form for the celebrations at the end of the race.

Spirit of Juno will be alongside after the race in Falmouth harbour close to the Antigua Yacht Club and you can stay on board until Tuesday morning--this gives access to cheaper flights. Antigua is a lovely Island claiming over 300 beaches and car hire is available for reasonable prices to explore it.

As well as Skipper Paul Jackson a commercial Ocean Yachtmaster with over 100,00NM with other experienced racing Yachtmasters will be ensuring we achieve our objectives which are

1) Safely complete the race
2) Enjoy ourselves
3) Do as well as we can.

Are you Suitable?
We already have several team members who have completed serious races such as the Sydney Hobart, Fastnet and Round Ireland so we can take some less experienced sailors and even a couple of novices. We provide training and lifejackets etc plus those signing up by 1st September can also do a race or training weekend in the Solent with Paul. This will be in September or October before he flies out to work in Australia for Sydney Hobart etc.
